Into The Wild

  • My first impression of this book is that the author is very "laid-back" when he writes this book. He has a style of a lot of other writers. I think the plot of this book is so clever and also so intruiging.
  • One word to describe Chris is Courageous because doing what he does is not an easy task. Living off of nothing except scraps that he digs up in the wild, would take its toll on many other people.
  • One theme that I have discovered while reading this book is Determination. He puts himself to a task and really goes "all-out" for it and does not let up until he completes it or gets his way.
  • This book reminds me of the show "Man vs. Wild" they both are set out to fight against the wild with little to no resources or supplies.
  • This reminds me of my Father. He is just like Chris in the sense that he is courageous and once he puts his mind to something he cannot let it go.
  • This relates to the world brecause a lot of people in our world today have little supplies. they are forced to fend for themselves and do anything they can just to live another day with out being starved to death.

Movie Review (Dislike)

One movie that I recently saw that I was not fond of was Tropic Thunder. This movie featured Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr. This movie is about a series of freak occurrences, a group of actors shooting a big-budget war movie are forced to become the soldiers they are portraying. I think that the plot was too "far-fetched". It was very unrealistic and something similar to this could never happen in real life. I also dont think turning a white man to a blakc man was very "ethical". This movie had multiple themes. One of them is to be careful what you wish for. These men just think they are out filming a movie about war and making a lot of money until they find out that they are on the other side of an actual war fighting for their lives against "madmen". Another theme of the movie is to always be on your guard. When the actors first hear the real gun shots they dont know what to do. They are caught so off guard and think nothing of it. After the first shot, the fighters keep firing and then the actors are dis-shoveled and become very scared. The main characters are Tugg Speedman (Stiller), Kirk Lazarus (Downey), and Jeff Portnoy (Black). Speedman is the highest-paid, highest-grossing action star ever with a current reputation of appearing in nothing but box-office hits. Lazarus is the man who portrays himself as an african-american. Portnoy is a drug addicted comedian. The writer is aiming at a funny movie that has a war setting (something that not many people think of). However, this movie is a flop and is way over the top and not as funny as the writer and director were shooting for.
One line from the movie is:
Kevin Sandusky: Tugg. Tugger. You're the last piece of the puzzle buddy. We need you! Your men need you. Are you with us?
Tugg Speedman: [pause] I'm a rooster illusion.
Kevin Sandusky: Fuck it. We'll deal with him later.
Some if these lines from this movie are just immature and not funny.

Movie Review (Like)

The movie that I am reviewing is "Billy Madison", a comedy movie starring Adam Sandler. This movie was released in 1995. The movie is about a 27- Year old man who is trying to take over his fathers hotel business but does not have the school qualifications to do so. He slacked all the way through high school and is now forced to take grades 1-12 over again to get the business. I think that this plot is hilarious and very clever. Some of the situations Billy gets put into are awkward, funny and most of all stupid. The themes of this movie are not obvious. One of the themes is to work hard until the end because you never know how things can help you later in life. Another theme is even if you have a lot of money and glory, you can still suffer and not to get ahead of yourself too much. The main character, like I said previously, is a 27-year old man who did not graduate from high school and wants to take over his fathers business. The next character is the man whom Billy is competing against for the job. His name is Eric, a selfish prick who does anything he can do to make sure that Billy does not get the job. Another character is Veronica Vaughn who is Billy's 3rd grade teacher, that is very attractive and is more than just a teacher to Billy. They had their ups and downs but in the end they fall in love and live happily ever after. The writer had many things spinning around when he wrote this movie. His main goal was for a comedy movie but in the end it turns out to be a very funny movie with some suspense as to who will get the job. This is a dialougue of Billy talking to his dad:
Brian Madison: Remember that spelling bee you won in the first grade? Rock: r-o-k?
Billy Madison: Yeah, so what's your point?
Brian Madison: r-o-C-k!
Billy Madison: Ohhh yeh! The c is silent.
This is just an example of how funny and clever this movie is.

20 Minutes with The President Part 2

I think that our nation will be a completely different country in 4 years. In these 4 years, I believe the Whites and Blacks of the United States will become more closely-knit and will agree on a lot more issues. Seeing as though our new president is African-American he will make the country a more peaceful place. I think taxes will rise in these 4 years, but not in a bad way. These taxes will go to Water, and the enviorment which will also, in turn, make this world a way better place to live. These are all reasons why our country will be a completely different place in four years when i am a 21-Year Old.

Planning ahead to the year 2035 will be a tough task. If someone in 1980 were asked to predict to 2008 they would not have predicted that we would have a Black President being elected. However, when asked about 2035 i think the United States will be a very expensive place to live no matter if it gas, homes, food or clothes. Jobs will become more scarce i beleive and it will be very difficult to raise a family and/or to hold a job. This is what i beleive the year 2035 will be like.

20 Minutes with The President Part 1

Dear Mr. President,
I am very proud of you being elected and am very confident you can help our country through our rough time. I have a few issues that stand out and would like you to spend more time on. One of those issues is getting troops out of Iraq as soon as possible. they have been there for too long and too many innocent men have been killed in the line of fire. Another issue is Taxes. I know they have to be raised but if you raise them too much the country will turn in the wrong direction and more people will start bitching. I think you should raise them to the point where the economy is still doing well but people are still happy. These are my suggestions to your during your stint in the White House.
Sincerely,
Edina

Halloween

Tommorow is halloween and I am very excited. A girl in my grade is having a party and a lot of people will be there. Costumes are required and I am going to be "Rocky Balboa" a boxer from the famous Rocky movies. 10 years ago tommorow, I would have been more excited than ever to hit the streets with my pillow case and fill it up until I puke. Now, it is different, no more candy, no more pillowcases just a bunch of high-schoolers gathering in a house for a party. I always ask myself... why is it when smoeone answers the door and sees a kid that is out of middle school and asks "aren't you a little old for this"? sadly but truely we have grown out of it and i wish we could go back.

Playing with Poetry

Part 1
LOVE

Love is like hole,
Always fall into it,
Hard to get out,
Sometimes deep,
Sometimes Shallow.
Unexpected,
Love lacks lusciousness,
One rough bump and it could be over,
Love is Pure,
Love is forever,
Never leaving my side,
Always wondering what will happen next.
Love is Love.
Part 2
LOVE
Love is like a hole,
Always fall into it,
Hard to get out,
Sometimes Sweet,
Sometimes Shallow.
Unexpected,
Love lacks lusciousness,
One rough bump and it could be over,
Love is Pure,
Love is forever,
Never leaving my side,
Always wondering what will happen next.
Love is Love.

Emily Dickinson
22

I gave myself to him,
And took himself for pay.
The solemn contract of a life
Was ratified this way
The value might disappoint,
Myself a poorer prove
Than this my purchaser suspect,
The daily own of Love
Depreciates the sight;
But, 'til the merchant buy,
Still fabled, in the isles of spice
The subtle cargoes lie.
At least, 'tis mutual risk,—
Some found it mutual gain;
Sweet debt of Life,—each night to owe,
Insolvent, every noon.

I chose this poem because of the catchy title, 22 made me want to read on. I think the descriptors are very intruiguing.

THe title is about someone owing 22 dollars to buy and recieve goods and such...

One maetaphor is the "sweet debt of life" it is comparing life and debt. She uses imagery when she says "the subtle cargoes lie" bacause she paints an image in the readers head. They create a feeling by having the readers thinking of what it is this person is actually buying.

It is a dull, imaginery tone. I said above the examples of imagery.

Love is Like a...

May if feel said he(I'll squeal said shejust once said he)it's fun said she(May I touch said heHow much said sheA lot said he)Why not said she(Let’s go said heNot too far said sheWhat’s too far said heWhere you are said she)May I stay said he(Which way said sheLike this said heIf you kiss said sheMay I move said heIs it love said she)if you're willing said he(But you're killing said sheBut its life said heBut your wife said sheNow said he)ow said she(Tiptop said heDon’t stop said sheOh no said he)Go slow said she(cccome? said heummm said he(You are Mine said she)

I think this is a very graphic poem and very funny. The author portrays love in a very sexual and inappropriate manner. He uses it to show how sex feels and sounds like saying "she squeal said he".

Love is like a snake. It is windy and can go in an unexpected direction at any given moment. It turns when there is a fight and turns when people are attracted to each other.

Minnesota Twins

I am a very big minnesota twins fan and have always been one. This week they have the biggest series of the season, they play the Chicago White Sox. If the twins sweep them they go a half game up with 3 games left. if the white sox sweep we are basically done. I have tickets to Tommorows game, if we win i might go but if we dont i will probably give the tickets away. I really hope we win and can go to the playoffs.

IM football

Today is a very important day for me. It is the first Intermural football game. I have a bunch of my friends on the team: Chip, Scott, Grant, Dan, Andrew, CJ, and a few others. I am playing Quarterback and i have never played that position and i am very excited to do so. This is the only thing i could think of, i had nothing else to write about but i am very excited.

Personal Narrative Paragraph

I thing there are a few words that i could change out for other words...

My first word:"Nan" a nickname, (with the exception for teachers) for my twin sister that has stuck with her ever since she could speak. My mother, Laurie Swiler, has always told me how I was a "kicker" when I was in her stomach. However it is always a mystery to what or who that was. That thing I was kicking happened to be my best friend, my twin sister, Natalie. Since the day the kicking stopped and we came out of my mom's stomach, 18 long minutes apart, we have always been "tightly knit". There have been three main steps in our lives, our childhood, adulthood and siblinghood. These steps are all put into the equation to describe why she is the most important person in my life as well as my best friend.

Discover

I have many things that I could write about on a regular basis. We need to brain storm ideas from our A-Z chart to help us get down to one main topic to write about on a weekly basis. At first thought, these are some of my leading candidates...

  • Tennis
  • Family
  • Weekends
  • School
  • Friends
  • Traveling
  • Sports

This Week in my blog I am going to introduce my family to you. My dad, Greg, is 50 years old and sells patio furniture to various companies
